Nkhotakota District Council Reforms Impress Veep Chilima

Nkhotakota, MANA: Vice president Saulos Klaus Chilima says he is impressed with reforms being implemented by Nkhotakota district council.

He said this on Friday in Nkhotakota when he visited reforms projects and met the full council members to appreciate progress.

He said it was pleasing to note that there was unity among stakeholders in Nkhotakota giving prospects of success in their vision.

“We have seen a good working relationship at the council level the secretariat, political members of parliament, Councilors, traditional leaders, business community and faith leaders” he said.

Chilima observed that good working relationship avoids unnecessary conflict and delays when making decisions.

He however encouraged the council to continue to explore new revenue streams for their own financial sustainability.

Earlier, the VP made a brief stop at the Boma where he assured residents that the construction of the M5 road will commence in the next 30 to 60 days, observing this will bring economic benefits.

Acting District Commissioner, Ben Tonho said the Council will explore other ways of increasing its revenue base such as venturing into industrial hemp production as observed by the VP.

Nkhotakota is implementing reforms in the area of Financial Sustainability, Tourism Development, Industrialization and Urbanization, Enhanced Governance, Information and Communication Technology and Fishing industry development.

So far, the VP has visited six district councils to appreciate the planned reforms for the councils.
