RED SEA: Chimwendo addressing the mammoth crowd at Rumphi Boma

Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture Richard Chimwendo Banda (RCB) says President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera believes that women empowerment plays a critical role in pushing the country’s economic growth, saying that the energy of women’s dynamic engine is the oxygen of a developing Malawi.

Chimwendo was speaking yesterday at Rumphi Boma when he addressed a development rally where he assured women and youth that government acknowledges that for the country to “take off” lives of women must be easier by providing them growth opportunities among the top priorities within Chakwera’ s leadership as promised during campaign.

As usual, the rally attached mammoth crowd.

“President Chakwera believes that women development is key to speedy development hence our president is making decisions keeping in mind the needs and aspirations of women in this country.

“Chakwera lauds the achievement of various women in this country who are effectively contributing to the growth of economy hence top positions in government are headed by women while citing examples Speaker of National Assembly Catherine Gotani Hara, Chief Secretary to Cabinet, Coleen Zamba, Inspector General of Police, Merlyne Yolamu ACB Director Martha Chizuma, MHRC Executive Secretary Habiba Osman, Ombudsman Grace Makera among others,” said Chimwendo Banda who is also MCP National Youth Director while urging girls to work hard in school to follow the footsteps of these noble women.

He however acknowledged that there serious problems in this country that force girls to drop out of school such as child marriage, early pregnancy, household responsibilities, long distances to access education among others.

“We have put deliberate policies in place to make such that no girl drop out of school,” he said.

The Local Government Minister has since encouraged women to form cooperatives so that they can access loans from NEEF offices to boost their business.

Chimwendo has also assured the people of Rumphi that the Chitipa- Nthalire- Rumphi road is actively on government plans and soon the machinery will be on the site.

On road to 2025, Chimwendo said President Chakwera is expected to win the polls while disparaging the UK based survey that gave Chakwera a bumpy ride.

“We are winning the 2025 polls and those who are not living in denial let them continue to believe so because MCP will continue to serve Malawians with humility.

“The economic landscape will improve soon so that many Malawians enjoy their hard earned taxes they pay to government,” said Chimwendo Banda.

Various MCP leaders attended the rally including Minister of Youth Uchizi Mkandawire.
