Zomba, May 11, Mana: Beautify Malawi (BEAM) Trust, an organization led by the First Lady Madame Professor Gertrude Mutharika on Saturday donated 25 blankets and 10 cartons of soap to Sakata Village in the area of Traditional Authority Nkagula in Zomba.
The support made through the Member of Parliament for Zomba Nsondole, Abu Naliwa, was aimed at enhancing preventative measures against corona disease.
“We have distributed the materials to the area development committee (ADC) members, most of whom, are village heads simply because these are centres of gatherings for all development activities,” Naliwa said.
Naliwa said Covid-19 Is real and that it was important to intensify preventive measures, which among others, include frequent hand washing.
“I will continue sourcing assistance so that people in my constituency are safe and protected from Covid-19 pandemic. I salute BEAM Trust for supporting us in Zomba Nsondole,” he said.
Sakata ADC chairperson, Floness Namasasu said the fight against coronavirus is working very smoothly as most of the leaders were working together in sensitizing communities on how to avoid contracting the pandemic.
Namasasu observed that the existence of Lake Chirwa predisposes people in the area, especially the fishing community which would then put them at risk of getting the virus.
“We were waiting for private organizations to help us but now BEAM Trust has heard our plea and given us these materials. As you can see, these are expensive items for people staying in the village to buy and we are going to use them responsibly,” she said.
In his remarks, Traditional Authority Nkagula hailed BEAM and the parliamentarian for the support.
Nkagula, however, encouraged his subordinates to remain vigilant by reporting new guests that come to the village for proper follow up and inspection.
