Suspected Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and UTM Party ‘thugs’ on Tuesday stormed Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) voter registration centres in Blantyre where they destroyed National Registration Bureau (NRB) kits.
According to one of the NRB Kit Operator at Ndirande-Makata Centre, the MCP-UTM thugs accused NRB and MEC officials at the centre of registering minors ahead of fresh presidential elections slated for July, 2 this year.
The heavily armed MCP-UTM thugs also stormed Chirimba registration centres where carried the similar operation of destroying voter registration kits worthy millions of Kwachas.
Efforts to speak to MEC’s Director of Media and Public Relations, Sangwani Mwafulirwa proved futile as his mobile was out of reach.
Meanwhile, Voter registration exercise has been suspended in some centres following the incident.
