She-Flames Under 20 Out of World Cup; Coach Blame Players

The Malawi National Women’s team is out of the Under 20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers following a 1-0 loss against Zimbabwe at the Barbourfields Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Zimbabwe progressed with a 2-1 aggregate win as the first leg ended 1-1 in Blantyre two weeks ago.

After a goalless first half, Zimbabwe got the match’s lone goal in the 72nd minute through Dinah Banda.

In a post-match Interview with Under 20’s She- Flames Assistant, Coach Kondwani Mwalweni said the team got punished for failing to utilize chances.

“The girls had a good game even though we have lost. As a team we could have scored more than two goals but the girls failed to finish the chance we had that is both home and away,” said Mwalweni.

Mwalweni added that the panel will maintain the squad for the 2020 COSAFA under 20 Women’s tournament.
