As the country is fast approaching fresh presidential elections, Saulos Chilima’s UTM Party contact person for Machinga district, Ellock Maotcha Banda has officially dumped the party for the governing Mighty Democratic Progress Party (DPP).
The Former Deputy Minister Maotcha was welcomed in the Mighty DPP on Monday by Party’s President for the Eastern Region Bright Msaka who is also Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.
According to Maotcha, a political marriage between UTM and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has forced him to dump the party saying he cannot associate with evil forces.
Maotcha Banda also served Member of Parliament for Machinga Central Constituency.
Member of Parliament for Blantyre City East, John Bande has also re-joined Mighty DPP ahead of the polls.
Malawi will hold fresh Presidential elections on 2 July following the nullification of May 2019 Presidential elections by the court.
The incumbent President Professor Peter Mutharika who picked Atupele Muluzi as his runningmate will represent DPP and United Democratic Front (UDF) alliance during the polls.
Mutharika will be facing Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and Peter Kuwani of Mbakuwaku Movement for Development (MMD) on the ballot.
