Kulamba feast cancelled due to unknown reasons

The Chewa Kulamba Cultural Festival, which was slated for August this year, has been cancelled.

Chewa Heritage Foundation publicity secretary, Jimmy Chikuni has confirmed the development in an interview with Nation Online.

He said the royal family has the final say on the matter and confirmed that this year the event will not take place.

“The organizing committee says the reasons for the cancellations are beyond their control. We hope the cultural ceremony will return next year,” said Chikuni as quoted by Nation Online

Kulamba ceremony is a traditional annual event of the Chewa people which is held every August at Mkaika royal Palace in Zambia.

Chewa people are a bantu ethnic group found in Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique and collectively form the Chewa Kingdom, a traditional monarchy headed by a King called Gawa Undi.
