President Lazarus Chakwera Forced to Cancel Public Events

Malawi President Reverend Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has cancelled all his upcoming public events, citing he wants to focus on addressing national and regional issues requiring his attention.

Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Zangazanga Chikhosi confirming the development through a statement made available to Malawi Voice on Tuesday.

According to Zangazanga Chikhosi all engagements will be delegated to other top officials.

Of the late, civil society organizations have been pressurizing Chakwera to reduce travels that are believed to be draining resources at the time Malawians are passing through economic hardships

Meanwhile, Social commentators in the country have commended President Chakwera for heeding public calls to reduce travel in the present socio-economic environment.

The commentators, Sherrif Kaisi and head of rights body, Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation, Michael Kaiyatsa, say the action demonstrates that Chakwera is getting back in touch with reality.

President Chakwera was scheduled to attend the World Aids Day commemoration at Bumba in Rumphi tomorrow and his convoy is in Mzuzu.
