A study by Afrobarometer has found that DPP remains the most popular party in Malawi likely to win elections if they were held tomorrow.
But in desperation, MCP has twisted the findings tipping itself as the most popular group.
Even more desperate is that MCP has deliberately ignored the fact that the survey was done on the basis that Malawi uses the First Part the Post System. Therefore, MCP has lumped itself together with UTM.
Afrobarometer conducted the study between November and December 2019 interviewing Malawians on a number of governance issues in the country.
In the study, 32% percent of those interviewed spoke in favour of the DPP winning an election ahead of MCP which comes second best in the survey while UTM comes third.
On whether Malawi should adopt a federal system of government, 75% of those interviewed rejected the idea.
In the study, Afrobarometer’s national partner in Malawi, Centre for Social Research of the University of Malawi, interviewed a
nationally representative, sample of 1,200 adult Malawians from in both rural and urban areas.
