DPP Vows to Reclaim Victory

The governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) says it will employ every resource at its disposal to win again in the fresh presidential poll to be held in July.

Addressing thousands of DPP supporters, clad in their traditional blue colours, the party’s Regional Governor for the South, Charles Mchacha, said in the coming fresh elections DPP will prove to the world that it won fair and square in May 21 presidential poll.

The Constitutional court on February 3 nullified the presidential poll, saying it was marred with irregularities.

“We are going back on the ground to mobilise our bases to vote again and we are winning again,”

Mchacha told hundreds of marchers, who presented a petition to Blantyre city council authorities. He also hailed the marchers for maintaining peace and order.

Delivering the petition to Blantyre City Assembly officials, DPP Secretary General Grezeldar Jeffrey said while they do not agree with the court ruling, the party was not shaken and is ready to claim another victory

Reading the 10 points petition, Executive Member Henry Mussa said the court did not find any evidence that DPP influenced voters.

“President Arthur Peter Mutharika was legitimately elected and did not rig neither contributed to the said irregularities. We therefore find no justification in the ordered fresh elections,” said Mussa.

“The court did not challenge the figures. We feel justice was not delivered. Still we are ready to vote and win again,” added Mussa.

The peaceful march started from the party’s southern region offices through Victoria Avenue to Blantyre CBD- via Masauko Chipembere to Blantyre Civic offices.
