Tight Security Ahead of ConCourt Verdict; Police to Close Three Roads in Lilongwe

The Malawi Police Service has beefed up security in the capital city Lilongwe ahead on presidential elections case ruling on Monday 3rd February 2020.

Among others, the police will close some roads in Lilongwe on Monday from 06 O’clock in the morning to 06 O’clock in the evening.

According to National Police Spokesperson, James Kadadzera the roads which will be closed are Lyn Jones Road from Likuni roundabout to Lilongwe Town Hall roundabout, Tsilanana Road from Lilongwe Hotel to Lilongwe Golf Club and Mtunthama Road from High Court Lilongwe Golf Club.

“There will be a security operation on Monday, 3rd February 2020, in and around the Lilongwe High Court in order to felicitate smooth deliver of the Judgement,” said Kadadzera  

The National Police Spokesperson Kadadzera further urged members of the general public to follow the court proceedings in their respective homes and offices as they will not be allowed near the court premises.

In the presidential elections case, Former Vice President Saulos Chilima of UTM Party and Malawi Congress Party leader Lazarus Chakwera petitioned the court seeking nullification of 21 May Presidential elections.
