DPP’s Wa Jeffrey Urges People to Vote For Mutharika

By Stanley Nkhondoyachepa

Mighty Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Secretary General Grezelder Jeffrey has called on people in Nkhotakota to defend their election of Peter Mutharika by voting him again during the forthcoming fresh presidential election slated for July, 2, 2020.

Jeffrey was speaking during whistle stop campaign rallies she conducted alongside senior party members from her party`s alliance partners, the United Democratic Front (UDF) and Assembly for Democracy and Development (ADD).

The DPP Secretary General assured the gatherings that the party was poised to win the forthcoming election, observing that the Peter Mutharika led administration has implemented a lot of development works across the country.

Jeffrey who is also Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, described President Mutharika as patient and peace loving as demonstrated by the way he handled the post-election violence perpetrated by opposition political parties.

“You have seen for yourself what MCP and UTM have done to this country. They wanted to see this country degenerate into civil war. Despite the provocation, the president remained calm in a show of true statesmanship.

“I tell you if it was not for the patience and tolerance by our state president, this country would have been at war” said Jeffrey.

In his remarks, DPPs Regional Governor for the Centre, David Kambalame said the three parties which have come together in an electoral alliance are the architects of democracy in Malawi and have agreed to defend democracy.

Deputy Minister of Irrigation and Water Development, Esther Majaza warned people against voting for MCP, reminding them of what she said are serious atrocities committed during its leadership.

Majaza said brutality is in MCP’s blood and challenged that the party can never change as evidenced by its latest conduct where it vandalized people`s property and killed a policeman in line of duty.

“MCP is a blood stained party, killing people and violence is in its blood and it will never change. Just lately, the party`s true colors became visible.

“This party lost elections and then resorted to vandalizing property and killing Muslims. Make sure you do not vote for this party” said Majaza.

The rallies took the DPP-UDF and ADD alliance to Bauti, Mpondagaga, Lozi, Chisoti, Mkaika trading centres and Benga.

Malawi goes to polls on 2 July in line with the constitutional court’s ruling which annulled the May 21 Presidential election.  The Malawi Supreme Court of Appeal upheld the constitutional court’s ruling.
