Makanjira North Ward Councillor Abdullah Yusuf for the Democratic Progressive Party has been elected as Mangochi Council chairperson, beating Hassan Chikuta for Malawi Congress Party (MCP), who is also the immediate-past chairperson.
He has scooped 24 votes out of 35 votes cast, leaving Chikuta with 11 votes.
The position of vice-chairperson went to Imran Nyambi who is Chilipa Ward Councillor for DPP, in Mangochi South West, who went unopposed.
This has happened despite Chakwera splashing money to councilors he invited at Chikokobay in the district just a day before the Elections.
