Escom receives transformers from Japan

Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom) has received five transformers to be installed in Lilongwe.

The transformers have been bought by Japanese International Corporation Agency as part of the Lilongwe Sub-stations Upgrade Project.

Escom Regional Manager for the centre, George Matukuta, said three transformers will be installed at Kanengo Sub-station while the other two will be installed at Lilongwe A Sub- station.

“With these transformers we are going to transmit electricity to many consumers in Lilongwe,” said Matukuta as quoted by Nation Online

ESCOM is the state-owned power transmission and distribution company in Malawi. It is entirely in control of transmission and distribution of electric power in the country.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency is a governmental agency that delivers the bulk of Official Development Assistance for the government of Japan.

It is chartered with assisting economic and social growth in developing countries, and the promotion of international cooperation.
