TWO YEARS LATER: MCP yet to replace ‘Mbuya’ Sidik Mia

OLD GOOD DAYS: Chakwera, Mia

The governing Malawi Congress Party (MCP) is yet to fill the position of party’s vice president for the South almost two years down the calendar since the post fell vacant.

The position of MCP’s vice president for the South became vacant after the death of Sidik Mia who succumbed to Covid-19 in January 12, 2021.

According to MCP’s constitution, only President Lazarus Chakwera and the party’s Central Committee are mandated to find a possible replacement of the party’s Vice President.

However, it is not clear as to when the MCP’s Central Committee and party’s leader Lazarus Chakwera will announce Mia’s replacement.

The delay to appoint Mia replacement has kept some senior party officials such as Gospel Kazako and Moses Kunkuyu at a dark corner as they are secretly fighting for the post.

Apart from the lowershire giant Mia, the party also lost Lingson Belekanyama who was Director of Research.
