Malawi President Chakwera ‘Extremely Angry’ Over USA Travel Ban

Chakwera: Covid measures must be based on science

Malawi President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, who is also Chairperson for Southern Africa Development Committee (SADC), has reacted angrily to the recent travel ban on SADC Countries by United States of America (USA).

USA and other western countries have banned travelers from eight SADC countries including Malawi after a potentially more-contagious new coronavirus variant were identified in South Africa.

Reacting to the development, President Chakwera accused USA of Afrophobia saying the travel ban was not based on science.

“We are all concerned about the new Covid variant and owe South Africa’s scientists our thanks for identifying it before anyone else did.

“But the unilateral travel bans now imposed on SADC countries by the UK, EU, US, Australia, and others are uncalled for.

Covid measures must be based on science, not Afrophobia,” posted Chakwera on his official facebook page.
