World Vision Malawi (WVM) made the donation of K12.7 million worth drugs and protective materials to the hospital.

Kasungu District Office (DHO) has asked well-wishers to provide its staff with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic.

The call was made on Friday when Pharmacy Technician, Matias Andimos said though the district has not registered any Covid-19 case so far, still there was need for more assistance in preparation for the fight against the deadly disease.

“Health workers have been trained in terms of how to manage the Covid-19 cases, but right equipment that we can use are not enough. Now, the coming in of WVM has helped to equip the hospital and we are now better off,” he said.

Andimos applauded WVM for the gesture, saying has equipped the institution to stand firm in an event where the disease hit the district and still asked for more support from other stakeholders.

WVM District Programmes Manager for Kasungu and Mponela, Robert Mitomoni said the organization saw it necessary to make the donation so as to help preparations for the fight against the pandemic in the district.

“Our organization being the committee member of Public Emergency Health Management Committee for the district, we have donated some of drugs and safety equipments in a response to strengthening measures being formulated to prevent spread of Covid-19 in the district,” he pointed out.

Among other donated packages are antibiotics, and safety materials such as Lab jackets, Masks, Ventilators.

The DHO calls for additional personal protective equipment and fuel which will be used to visit patients in home isolation and during awareness campaigns in the district.-MANA
