BT Synod Denies Pocketing MK 70 Million From DPP to Support Lockdown

Dr Gama: Ignore the news

The Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) – Blantyre Synod has dismissed social media reports alleging that it has received over K70 million from Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) led government to support the lockdown.

Over the week-end, Social media platforms such as Whatsapp and facebook was stormed with fake news indicating that CCAP-Blantyre synod has received 70 Million kwacha to endorse lockdown.

Blantyre Synod’s General Secretary, Reverend Dr. Billy Gama trashed the allegation on Monday through a Press Briefing held in Blantyre. He described the rumors as fake news.

“We have not received any money to support the lockdown. People are creating fake stories with the aim of tarnishing the good image of Blantyre synod,” said Dr. Gama

Government through the Minister of Health, Jappie Mhango last week on Tuesday announced a 21 days lockdown as a measure of preventing the spread of Covid-19, a deadly diseases caused by coronavirus.

The lockdown was suppose to commence Saturday, March 18, 2020 at midnight but was suspended after Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) obtained a court injunction stopping government from implementing the order.
