Nankhumwa Bodyguard Killed in Road Accident

A car accident at Lumbadzi in Dowa district on Wednesday claimed the life of a 43 year old Sub Inspector Elias Yalu who was personal bodyguard for Minister of Foreign Affairs Kondwani Nankhumwa.

Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) Police Public Relations Officer, Sapulain Chitonde said deceased died after a car which he was driving collided with a truck when he was overtaking another car at Lumbadzi Trading Centre.

According to Chitonde, the deceased in company of his wife Inness and their son, was driving a motor vehicle registration number NA 1114 from Dowa turn off direction towards Lumbadzi trading center.

“Soon before arriving at Mkukula Primary School he decided to overtake a motor vehicle registration number MJ 6049 Scania truck and in the process he hit the front offside Tyre of the truck and swerved to extremely offside of the road where he overturned several times before resting.

“Due to the impact Yalu sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Lumbadzi Health Center. His wife Innes sustained a deep cut on her right lower leg with several bruises while their son escaped unhurt,” confirmed Chitonde.

Foreign Affairs Minister Nankhumwa, Minister of Homeland Security Nicolas Dausi and Acting Inspector General of Police Duncan Mwapasa attended the send off which took place at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) Mortuary.

The late Ellias Yalu will be buried tomorrow on Thursday, 16 April at his home village Chibuli in the area of Traditional Authority (T.A) Ndamela in Nsanje district.
