Blantyre Business School Introduces Online Learning

By Lucky Millias

As schools remain closed as one of the precautionary measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, Blantyre Business School (BBS) has introduced online learning for its students to continue learning at their homes.

The move has forced the management to adjust to an online learning platform in their two campuses which are in Lilongwe and Blantyre.

This is so as the institution is remaining with three months to finish 2019/2020 academic year.

BBS Training Manager, Kondwani Mphepo confirmed the development in an interview with the Malawi News Agency (Mana) saying the online lessons have commenced this week.

‘‘The government of Malawi through the Ministry of Education has ordered all schools to remain closed until further notice therefore we have introduced this online learning in order to finish the remaining months,” Mphepo said.

He further stated that the online lessons will still be part of the lessons even if the pandemic ends as the management feels like it is a welcome development.

“All students’ internet accounts have been connected to one computer in our office for security reason. But in some cases they will use WhatsApp to get learning materials till the school opens,” he said.

He clarified that the platforms will be strictly for academic purposes like getting tutorials and submitting assignments.

Commenting on the matter, BBS diploma student, Brian Brown Phiri said the move that the school has introduced will help students continue with their studies despite corona virus outbreak.

‘‘The online lessons will help us finish the remaining three months while we are at home. This is a move that big institutions have failed to accomplish as they have sent the students to their homes with no hope of returning to school soon,’’ he said.

The BBS management has however advised people to follow the preventive measures that have been put in place to prevent the spread of the virus.
