The Malawi Government through the Ministry of Information, Civic Education and Communication Technology has linked the recent attack on person with albinism in Mzimba with the forth-coming presidential elections.
On Saturday, unknown people attacked and chopped off toes of a 92-year-old woman with Albinism identified as Tafwauli Ngoma in Mzimba.
In a statement Minister Information, Mark Botomani who also doubles as Government Spokesperson said the attack was a well calculated move by the opposition political parties in the country as one way discrediting the current administration.
“Elsewhere in the region, Violence against people with albinism has been linked to elections.
Although there has been no study in Malawi, Government is compelled to conclude that the attack in Mzimba could be part of calculated violence as we may be going towards fresh presidential election ordered by the Constitutional Court on 3rd February, 2020,” said Botomani
Government has since directed Malawi Police Service to hunt for and arrest the suspected criminals.
