Never tolerate any acts of corruption- Kapoloma

Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has asked students at the Polytechnic to refrain from any acts of corruption if they are to be an integral part of the country’s development process.

MRA’s Marketing and Communications Manager, Steve Kapoloma made the appeal during an Accounting Students Alumni Day at the Polytechnic campus on Friday.

“It is good time for you as students to train yourself never to tolerate any acts of corruption which include bribery.

“Embrace a culture that even when you graduate from this college, it still remains in you and be agents of integrity everywhere you will go in the industry,” said Kapoloma.

Kapoloma also asked the students to set a good example by being responsible in paying tax as well as helping the institution in civic educating Malawians on the importance of paying tax.

Taking his turn, a Financial Consultant at Audit Consult, one of the auditing firms in the country, Kamkwamba Kumwenda advised the students to abstain from acts of immorality that may put their lives at risk.

You Are a Big Asset to the Nation – Kumwenda

Kumwenda, who was the guest honour during the event, said this as he shared his life experiences during his time at Poly in the mid 80s.

“You must realise that as accounting students, you are a big asset to the economic development of this country because you are needed at every level of organisation; be it in private or public sector.

“Therefore, I urge you to enjoy responsibly because we do not want to lose you so soon, as it will be a big blow to our country’s economy,” said Kumwenda.

The event was organised by the Society of Accounting Students [SOCAS] with the aim to create a platform for the students to interact with accountants and auditors in the industry by sharing experiences and new ideas.

Speaking on behalf of the students, SOCAS President, Rajif Issah thanked MRA, Audit Consult, Minet and Deloitte for sponsoring this year’s event.

Issah also expressed gratitude to his fellow students for sparing their time to attend the event despite their tight study schedules.

During the function, SOCAS also launched its Newsletter for the 2019/2020 academic year which was a second issue.
