Machinga, October 12, Mana: President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera on Tuesday said the Tonse government is building the new Malawi which will define the agenda 2063.
Dr. Chakwera made the sentiment in Machinga when he was commissioning the new Liwonde Fertilizer Terminal of Malawi Fertilizer Company.
He said he is optimistic that by 2025, 10 percent of the work of creating the new Malawi will be achieved by his government.
The Malawi leaders to that end boosted that his government had so far created an inclusive environment for development comprising of government and public sectors.
“The coming in of the Liwonde Fertilizer Terminal is in line with the vision of this current government of inclusive self-reliance and wealth creation country by 2063. The fertilizer terminal is crucial in the creation of an inclusive wealth country that will help in achieving agenda 2063.
“The company is also contributing to wealth creation, job creation and food security to the country,” said Dr. Chakwera.
He then commended the company for its strategic decision to build a rail line that is linked to Nacala line which he said was supporting his vision to see that Liwonde dry port becoming fully functional.
The Malawi leader however appealed to the proprietors to make the price of their products accessible to Malawians so that self-reliance is realized.
He then warned the company to use the terminal as a blending port where they will only use locally resourced materials unlike importing already made fertilizers to the country as this will lead to an increase in fertilizer prices.
In his speech Malawi Fertilizer Company Chief Executive Officer Christos Giannakis said his company will continue to support the success of the current government’s agricultural programs aiming at making the country food secured.
The chief executive officer revealed plans to have a new testing lab and a power solar of about 220 kilowatts.
Liwonde Fertilizer Terminal of Malawi Fertilizer Company is said to be a leading blending, packaging and supplier of fertilizer in the country.
