Address Real Issues- Ansah

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has called for issued bases campaign ahead of fresh presidential polls slated for 2 July 2020 in the country.

MEC’s Chairperson, Justice Dr. Ansah made the call on Saturday during the official launch of campaign period which will run from 2 May to 30 June 2020.  

Dr. Ansah said the time for taking the campaign period as an opportunity to harass, humiliate, demonize, defame, intimidate and repress political opposition is over.

“Malawians are looking forward to campaigns that will transform their lives and livelihood. They want to see campaigns that will consolidate and strengthen our democracy beyond individualism, ethnicity and regionalism.

Candidates have the responsibility to seriously address real issues, elaborate their manifesto, so that voters should judge them based on their ideas and on how they would resolve problems facing our nation today,” said Dr. Ansah

The Chairperson, Dr. Ansah also appealed to all candidates and political parties to follow Covid-19 preventative measures during the campaign period. She challenged the candidates to use innovative measures in reaching the masses.

“With respect to the global pandemic the Coronavirus and various public health guidelines and restrictions in place, candidates will have to find other innovative ways to of reaching out to the electorate,” said Ansah

She added: “In this campaign, we stress that our politicians should emphasize on physical distance, above average hygiene standards, electoral tolerance and leverage on issue-based campaigns”

Malawi will hold fresh presidential elections on 2 July 2020 after High Court sitting as Constitution Court nullified May 2019 Presidential elections and ordered a fresh election.

    Here in Malawi the opposition should as much as possible expose your stupid relationship with Peter and the DPP. Last time you expressly stated that MEC should do everything possible to ensure Peter retains the presidency. Not MPs. But President. Why?

    Sorry I disagree with you. The voters should be told the truth and nothing but the whole TRUTH.
