No Lockdown In Malawi- Govt

No lockdown here- Botomani

The Malawi Government through Ministry of Information has refuted rumors circulating on social media platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook that government intends to put the country on a lockdown in the wake of coronavirus.

According Minister of Information, Mark Botomani, who is also government spokesperson, the issue of lockdown is not on the agenda for the government.

The Minister Botomani urged Malawians to first crosscheck with the authorities to find if claims of such issues are legit.

COVID-19, which is now a global issue, was first discovered in December 2019 in Wuhan City in China.

The disease has affected several countries in the world including neighbouring countries such as Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Zambia.

Although there no case has been detected in Malawi yet, several stakeholders have quickly responded by increasing preventive measures.

Over 740,000 people across the globe have tested for the virus and it has killed over 33,300 of them. The number of those who have since recovered is now at 156,602.
