Malawi, China’s Huawei sign MoU on strengthening digital transformation

The Malawi Government and Huawei have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Strengthening Digital Transformation.

President Lazarus Chakwera witnessed the signing between Huawei Technologies and two of his ministries—the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Information and Digitalization—at the firm’s headquarters in Shenzhen, China.

The MoU states that the parties will cooperate in various fields such as renewable energy, broadband connectivity, E-government, smart education, and ICT talent training, according to a statement from Huawei.

By signing the MoU, the parties express their willingness to collaborate in building off-grid solar power stations in rural areas of Malawi to boost rural electrification, according to a statement after the MOU.

“This will improve the quality of life for rural residents and support agricultural, industrial and economically productive activities in rural areas, which will create jobs and stimulate economic development,” says the statement.

At the ceremony, Huawei also donated equipment for a Micro-Grid Solar Pilot Site and E-Government Smart Office to the Malawian government. –( Story Credit: Nation Online)
