Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima, who is also UTM party President, has revealed that president Dr. Lazarus Chakwera will not take part in the 2025 presidential elections inline with Tonse alliance memorandum.
The man of the moment Dr. Chilima was speaking on Friday during a presser held at UTM headquarters in Lilongwe. He said UTM and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) signed a ten years memorandum.
According to Dr. Chilima, the Political Alliance Agreement clearly sets out guiding principles and modalities of its implementation for the sole benefit of the people of Malawi.
“I would like to state that the Agreement was signed for a period 10 years in which both Dr Chakwera and I would support one another to lead for one term. But if for any reason this were to change, a process similar to what ensued before the Agreement was signed ought to follow.
“There is no wisdom in name calling, abuse, arrogance, humiliation or indeed violence for something that came into being amid smiles and a sense of hope for many generations.
“Any departure from the Agreement amounts to political fraud not only on the parties to the Agreement, but also on the popular will that mandated the Alliance in the first place,” said Chilima
Meanwhile, Malawians on the social media have praised Dr. Chilima for revealing the memorandum to the public.
If Chakwera is for one term Chilima need to amend his own constitution law to be followed by Malawians to allow president to run this country for one term. Simple and straight forward
