The Hypocrisy of President Chakwera

By Rick Dzida

Memories are still fresh when demonstrators invaded our cities with a hope that they would see a better Malawi for themselves and their children.

With all the trust, many Malawians placed their wholesome hope on President Chakwera.

With over 90 percent of the population as God believers, many Malawians put a lot of trust in Reverend Chakwera.

Had they known!! Day by day President Chakwera is proving to be a professional hypocrite. He promises one thing and does another.

A few examples will endeavour to elucidate how hypocritical President Chakwera is.

  1. As one of the five pillars of MCP slogans, Reverend Chakwera promised unity among Malawians.

As of now, on the contrary, Malawians are more divided than before. The Chewa tribe and central region have a lion’s share in public appointments including cabinet positions.

Tribalism, cronyism, provincialism, regionalism, localism, nepotism and ethnocentrism are just the order of the day.

  1. Reverend Chakwera promised us to be prospering together as Malawians. This is not the case now.

The gap between the rich and the poor is still widening. The rich are getting richer while the poor poorer.

Prices of goods and services are just skyrocketing. If we cry that we can’t afford exorbitant transport prices, we are told to walk on foot like Adam and Eve!

  1. Reverend Chakwera promised to end corruption. No, he was just trying to be hypocritical. Corruption is rampant now.

And there is selective justice to fight corruption. Those people who have allegations of corruption on their necks are being shielded from facing justice just because they are affiliated to Tonse Alliance grouping. Selective justice is not justice at all.

  1. Is Reverend Chakwera servant leader? How can a servant leader raise his own salary when the elderly are not receiving any monthly stipend, contrary to what he promised?

How can a servant leader introduce VAT on essential goods like cooking oil? How how can that be?

  1. Does Chakwera respect the rule of law? It was utra vires for President Chakwera to appoint the acting commissioner general of MRA.

Recently, President Chakwera has assented to a bill that violates employees’ constitutional right to hold industrial strikes for as long as their grievances are not addressed.
