Convicted felon Mike Msungama Phiri and his brother notorious conman Kondi Msungama are some of the notable figures financing Chakwera as he gears up for the fresh election.
Mike Msungama Phiri was implicated in cashgate during Joyce Banda’s presidency. He was was convicted of selling stolen cars and aiding cashgate suspects to swindle money from Capital Hill.
Mike’s fate came following his acquiring of a Toyota Fortuner which was used by an Accounts Assistant for the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Patrick Sithole when he was arrested for being found with K120 million which was in different currencies.
Msungama went to police to claim the vehicle was his and police said it was stolen. Prosecutors successfully proved their case in court against Msungama, said Mshyani.
MCP President, Lazarus Chakwera, spent time to visit his main bankroller, Mike Msungama a few years ago.
Sources from inside Maula Prison said Chakwera entered the prison gates at around 4pm and asked prison officials if he could speak to Msungama in an office not at a wire fence as is the normal case.
According to one of the warders, Samson Masula, the MCP leader then told Msungama that when he (Chakwera) gets into government he will make sure that the cases are dropped or revisited. It is an open secret that Chakwera used his connections in the judiciary to have Msungama released before his sentence ended.
Mike Msungama was the main funder of Chakwera having bought him a Hummer (which was under investigation as it was stolen from Angola) and deposited K45 million in MCP’s bank account.
Recently, Mike Msungama Phiri was sued for getting money under false pretense from one of late Aleke Banda’s daughter’s, Chawezi Banda, popularly known as Cha Cha in which he swindled from her a sum of US$ 47,000.00. He has not paid back a single cent but has the guts to buy and donate cars to MCP.
Kondi Msungama is a well known conman who misappropriated funds at Nyasa Big Bullets and is always in and out of jail for different fraud schemes.
These are the people surrounding Chakwera and these are the ones who can’t wait to dip their fingers into our coffers if MCP wins.
Vote wisely. This is another Lutepo scenario in the making.
