The Mighty Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Regional Governor for the Eastern Region, Julius Paipi has accused opposition political parties in the country of jealousy.
Paipi made the remarks on Monday barely days after opposition social media team cooked a story linking him to Mangochi ‘ritual killing’ in which two dead bodies of children were discovered within the compound of a certain businessman.
He said the opposition namely Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and its political bedfellow UTM created the story out of jealousy and envy in order to win votes in the region.
“As you are aware the Eastern region is the political bedroom for the mighty DPP-UDF alliance so the opposition tried to link me with the ‘ritual killing’ hoping that they will win the hearts of voters,” said Paipi
He added: “Despite the propaganda by the opposition the people here are still behind DPP-UDF alliance and they will vote for President Professor Peter Mutharika in the forth-coming presidential elections.”
Malawi will hold fresh presidential elections on 2 July 2020 following the nullification of May 2019 presidential elections.
