A group of concerned and patriotic Malawians will tomorrow on Monday expected to petition the Court to nullify 21st May 2019 Parliamentary and Local government elections.

The Concerned Citizens will petition the court following the nullification of Presidential elections by the High Court sitting as Constitution Court on February 2, 2020 citing irregularities.

Speaking during a Press briefing on Sunday in Lilongwe, Spokesperson for the Concerned Citizens, Prince Chokotho said the irregularities affected both Presidential, Parliamentary and Local government elections hence the need to call for fresh Tripartite elections.

“We are petitioning the court to seek justice since those irregularities affected all the results. If there was use of tippex, this affected the entire tripartite elections and not only presidential election,” said Chokotho

He added: “We have engaged legal experts and they have explained to us what needs to be done, that is why we are now petitioning the court,”

Recently, former Members of Parliament who lost during the May elections also petition the court to nullify the elections and call for fresh elections,

The Constitutional Court ordered the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to conduct Fresh Presidential elections within 150 days from the day of verdict and the Commission agreed to conduct the polls on July 2, 2020.
