Chikwawa Pastors Fraternal Saturday organized prayers where they called upon God to intervene in the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.
Chikwawa has registered one Covid-19 case with many other suspects under close surveillance.
Before the prayers reached a peak, the Pastors who were joined by their followers and other concerned communities sang songs of praise and worship calling on the Holy Spirit to engulf the fire which the pandemic has brought to the world.
In an interview with Malawi News Agency (Mana) on the sidelines of the prayers, Chairperson for Chikwawa Pastors Fraternal, Pastor Wilson Kachenje observed that the speed at which disease was spreading is what prompted them to organize the prayers.
“We thought it wise that at this time when things seem to be getting out of hand, we need to seek God’s intervention,” he said adding that, “The pandemic has not spared Chikwawa. We have people in hospitals with others on self quarantine as such we need God to intervene.”
Kachenje said it was time that all religious groupings come together for a common goal, saying: “May I request government to consider us as religious leaders. We have the people behind us; hence, the need for us to be equipped with the necessary messages that would be relayed to our flock.”
Assemblies of God Pastor from Nchalo Branch, Misheck Mhango said Covid-19 pandemic has made people around the globe live in a very difficult time.
“We have been praying and we believe that God heals in reference to Psalms 103 verse 3 where it says he is the healer of all the sicknesses.
“And through Jesus Christ, we know we are healed. We know there is no sickness that cannot be healed in the presence of God,” he said.
Mhango added that they thought of putting a special day of prayers so that Chikwawa and the nation should be healed from the pandemic and that it should not continue prevailing in the world.
“Government has its own role to play; so are religious leaders. If we join hands, we become a big force,” he added.
Meanwhile, Malawi has a total number of to 13 confirmed cases of Covid-19, including two deaths.
