The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) is happy with the coming of Coronavirus and has vowed to take government to task for suspending voter registration.
Minister of Health, Jappie Mhango on Tuesday, called for the suspension of voter registration for the fresh presidential election following the death of a Coronavirus patient in Blantyre.
The rebranded HRDC without Timothy Mtambo, met on Tuesday and planned to issue some ultimatums to government at a news conference today Wednesday in Lilongwe.
The grouping, which is trying to fight for its relevance to Malawians after the resignation of Mtambo, has planned to dress down Mhango arguing that government should allow people to die of Coronavirus to show that it abides by the rule of law.
The Constitutional Court nullified the presidential election and ordered a fresh election in 150 days from February this year.
Malawi Government has banned all forms of gatherings including voter registration to respect the right to life.
But HRDC says government should ignore the people’s right to life and proceed with the registration where the likelihood of Coronavirus transmission is very high.
