MCP Divided Over Chakwera’s Injunction To Stop Judges From Making A Ruling On Election Case

Just hours after the announcement by the High Court that the much-awaited ruling on elections case will be made on Monday morning, Malawi Congress Party president Rev. Lazarus Chakwera has asked his legal team to apply for an injunction stopping the High Court judges from making the ruling on February 3, 2020.

According to one of Chakwera’s lawyers, the Malawi Congress Party leader whose mandate to stand on MCP ticket has expired met his legal team led by Titus Mvalo to block the move from happening.

According to Chakwera, it is obvious that the MEC will come out victorious during the case which to him does not represent “the wish of the masses”.

This is contrary to the behavior which MCP sympathizers have been demonstrating on social media alleging that judgement is in the opposition’s court and was to be delivered this coming Friday.

Meanwhile, High Court registrar Agness Patemba has said those who may not be happy with the judgement have the freedom to appeal at the supreme court against the ruling the same way they took the case to the court instead of breaking things in towns and cities
