President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika today led Malawians from all walks of life in 54th independence celebrations in Mzuzu.
The celebrations started with National Service of Worship at Mzuzu State Lodge where Mutharika read the Bible from the book of Psalms 33 Verses 12-15.
In their prayers and homilies, members of the clergy emphasized on the need for Malawians to unite and work hard with a high sense of integrity and patriotism to attain economic freedom.
Offerings collected will be donated to Nkope School for the Blind which is run by the Anglican Church.
This year’s theme for the independence cerebrations is “Cerebrating Unity, Freedom and Progress through Patriotism, Integrity and hard work”.
And in the afternoon, Mutharika presided over the independence activities at the Mzuzu stadium.
