Teachers from across the country are on cloud nine following the sweet news that government will pay their arrears this July after a successful meeting of TUM officials in Lilongwe, a develoment that has led to the suspension of the much talked about teachers strike.
According to the press release Malawi Voice has seen written by the TUM Chair, Paul Mbendera, indicates that even teacher promotions will take place this year.
“Good afternoon, Following TUM meeting held in Lilongwe on Sat 07/07/2018 delegates have resolved to suspend teachers strike that was slated to start on 09/07/2018 because government has agreed to: pay teachers arrears this July 2018 (union has overwhelming evidence ). Teachers promotions will take place this year too. More to come through SG. Teachers should discharge their duties as normal DC, DEM, PEas and all headteachers must communicate this information to all teachers, ” reads the statement in part signed by Mbendera.
