Barely a week after Malawi Congress Party (MCP) leader Lazarus Chakwera openly branded President Peter Mutharika a failure, it has been established that his own office has not been able to pay districts and regional office workers for 22 month.
One of the workers told privately own Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) on condition of anonymity, that they have been suffering in silence, pursuant to the party’s four cornerstones of Discipline, Loyalty, Obedience, and Unity, but said enough was now enough and that they were set to take the matter outside the party circles.
“We have not been paid for 22 months. This is despite the fact that most of us are paid something as low as Mk15, 000 per month,” said one of the workers told ZBS.
MCP Administrative Secretary Portiphar Chidaya confirmed the mal-administration but claimed 22 months was an exaggeration.
“Its true that the party own some of its workers payments, but it is sheer axergeration to claim that it is going as far as 22 months,” said Chidaya.
Chidaya further explained that the staff workers were advised to use the MCP structures across the country to generate funds for themselves.
Ironically, MCP as one of biggest political parties in the country receives funding from Parliament for its day-to-day operations.
