Piece of law, making the existence of National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) as an Act of Parliament, is set for tabling in the next sitting.
Justice Minister Samuel Tembenu disclosed this in Parliament on Thursday, following a query from Nkhatabay Central Parliamentarian Ralphael Mhone (Peoples Party) on when the Government was planning to formalise the creation of the bureau.
NIB came into existence through pronouncement by democratic Malawi founding president Bakili Muluzi, replacing the tyrannical Special Branch of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), and parliament was by-passed in the whole process.
Tembenu assured the House that the Bill, creating NIB, was in its final stages and that it will be ready for tabling in the next sitting.
Nicholas Dausi is the current chief of the local intelligence bureau.
