By Justice Mponda

The National Aids Commission (NAC) has approved grants amounting to MK2.81 billion to 62 various organisations for implementation of HIV and AIDS programmes in Malawi.

In a press release on Friday, NAC said the grants were related to January to June 2010 cycle.

NAC said the approved grants would support implementation of the National HIV and AIDS Action Framework (NAF) priority areas.

“The approved grants will support implementation of NAF priority areas, which cover HIV prevention, Treatment, Care and support services. The financial support will also contribute towards implementation of national HIV Prevention Strategy” reads the statement

However, NAC has urged the organisations to utilize the resources provided through the Grant Facility in compliance with the approved activities and budget as stipulated in the grant agreement for the benefit of the people of Malawi.

The HIV and AIDS management body further thanked the Government of Malawi and its funding and development partners for their continued support which it said has enabled sustained implementation of national HIV and AIDS Action Framework.

Meanwhile the international donor community has come out strongly on countries such as Malawi for the abuse of HIV and AIDS funds.
