Minibuses To Be Painted According To Routes
Road Authorities and Minibus Owners Association of Malawi (MOAM) are contemplating on introducing route colour coding system to all minibuses in order to reduce congestion on the roads of Malawi .
MOAM Secretary General Coxley Kamange said the move would not only ease up congestion but also instill decorum on the roads of Malawi .
“There are a lot of minibuses plying on the roads of Malawi , this has resulted into unbearable congestion. So what we are trying to do is allocating these minibuses to specific destinations using colour codes.
“There also have been cases where by a minibus would just abandon passengers before reaching their destination and change the route. This would be over, and also in a situation where by a passenger has forgotten something in a particular minibus, it would be easy to allocate that particular minibus simply because there would be very few buses on that rout,” he said
Meanwhile the National Road Safety Council has embarked on replacing all metal road sign post with plastic ones in order to reduce vandalism.
The council’s acting Director General Charles Thupi said the MK50 million project is expected to start in early November this year.
Thupi said the move would drastically reduce cases of vandalism as metals are prone to the malpractice as they were turned into hoes and other household items
“Road signs are placed to assist motorist and pedestrians, so we think taking bout all metal signs and replace them with plastic ones would greatly reduce cases of vandalism.
