A highly empowered delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will soon be in the country to review some programs Malawi has on money rendering institutions which were instituted four months ago.
Disclosing this on Thursday, Minister of Finance Ken Kandodo Banda said the delegation would jet into the country in two weeks time, to review the programs which included the Extended Credit Facility (ETF).
Kandodo said that since the ETF was instituted to achieve a remarkable three months import cover in June, the country’s economy had greatly improved.
“We set aside some targets to achieve such as the three months import cover and restructuring of some statutory cooperation, and we have really achieved, so their coming to review the program in two weeks time is a positive development as it would give us fresh indicators in as far as monitoring our growing economy is concerned,” said Kandodo
On the restructuring of parastatals, Kandodo also disclosed that government would soon bring back two aircrafts which were grounded in South Africa.
“Government announced a complete overhaul of Air Malawi including footing off all its debts. We will also bring back the two grounded planes which are in South Africa,” he said.
