Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has for the past week been at the centre of propagating rumours that President Mutharika is very ill in United States and might not perform his duties as normal.
Malawi Punch – an online publication funded by Bushiri and managed by his PRO Kelvin Sulungwe- has been publishing false stories saying the President is delaying his return because he is ailing on top creating creating a false BBC online page.
Bushiri has since 2014 spoke against Democratic Progressive Party and it’s leaders simply due to his closeness to former leader Joyce Banda, now in self-imposed exile.
Prior to the 2014 elections Bushiri made a prophecy saying JB was going to emerge victorious. He however went into hibernation when his preferred candidate was trounced into third place.
Since then he has repeatedly done things to tarnish the image of President Mutharika and his government.
This he has done by sponsoring news sites that discredit the President. Sulungwe and Malawi Punch aside, Bushiri also sponsors Gerald Kampanikiza whose account they use to fight government.
With enough money and promises, Kampanikiza allowed Sulungwe to be using his Facebook account once in a while to fight their cause.
Many Malawians have questioned Bushiri’s rationale in wishing a leader bad and going on to sponsor a propaganda machine that serves his malicious purpose.
“It’s a shame for one who calls himself prophet to be at the centre of spreading these kind of rumours. His own boys are busy using church equipment to spread falsehood but Bushiri stands there and watches without saying anything. Very deplorable I should say,” wrote one commenter on the Malawi Punch story.
Contrary to Malawi Punch assertions, President Mutharika is in good health and set to return home any day this week.
