APM Says Malawi On The Verge Of Becoming A Great Nation, As He Calls For Innovative Minds

President Peter Mutharika: He Has Called For Innovative Minds

President Arthur Peter Mutharika has called on Malawians to embrace Science, Technology and Innovation to turn Malawi from predominantly importing to an exporting nation.

The Malawi leader observed that the country is on the verge of becoming a great nation noting that it only needs human resource base with the right and essential skills and knowledge to carry out the needed transformation.

Mutharika made the remarks on Thursday after being inaugurated as Chancellor of the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) at a ceremony held at the University campus at Ndata in Thyolo.

“People need to have a scientific mind and confidence to prove that they are capable of utilizing Science, Technology and Innovation to realize the country’s dream of turning from predominantly consuming to a producing nation,” he said.

President Mutharika hit back at his critics who alleged that he has failed the nation, urging them to develop a positive mind as well as appreciate the socio-economic developments his administration is implementing.

“If you are saying I have failed the nation, we would not have seen infrastructural development, investment as well as hunger reduction measures among others in this country,” he challenged.

Commenting on his new position as Chancellor of MUST, President Mutharika said he is committed to guiding the vision of the university as well as provide sound leadership not only for MUST but also for other universities.

Chairperson of the Council of the University, Dr Andrew Daudi described the inauguration of President Mutharika as a clear demonstration that the Malawi leader is committed to uplifting higher education in Malawi.

He said MUST has adopted various agendas which include research and biochemical technology as stipulated in its strategic plan, for Malawi to socially as well as economically realize its dream.

During the ceremony, lectures centred on the role of Science, Technology and innovation in economic growth and development focusing on Malawi as well as Africa at large, were delivered.

MUST which a brain child of late professor Bingu wa Mutharika, was officially opened on October 24, 2014 by Professor Peter Mutharika and the University has a total enrolment of 950 students. (By Memory Kutengule, Mana)

Malawi will start getting back on its feet when the manifestos seize to exist. That will be the day. Malawi in crisis…we don’t have decent pay in our jobs, no water, no electricity, long ques everywhere, dpp officials fattening there wallets. The poor keep on getting poorer. When these change…Malawi will be on the right track.
We have young innovative minds wasting away because of this shitty party. U go in government offices…corrupt mps and leaders. Get rid of these recycled politicians. They have served there purpose in history. Apange retire. Bring in people who want to serve and see a better Malawi.
Is it not the same useless politicians who r mocking our own education system? Busy sending there kids abroad with money stolen from our own treasuries? Kumatinena ife tomwe kuti ma degree athu are worthless??? And u say Malawi on the verge of greatness? Take a moment think…look at the poor…one day let apm go for a private road trip without his entourage and he shld see for himself the true state of the nation.
