George Kasakula’s Appointment As MBC Director General Sparks Anger

Kasakula New MBC Boss

A cross section of Malawians have reacted ‘angrily’ to the appointment of George Kasakula as Director General for the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).

Minister of Information, Gospel Kazako confirmed the appointment of Kasakula on Wednesday through his official facebook account.

“The Board of Directors for MBC has appointed George Kasakula as its Director General,” said Kazako, who also doubles as Government Mouth-Piece.

Commenting on the appointment a facebook user under the name Jeremih colest posted: “I feel like this move is all just to silence the opposition side and the only thing Malawi should know is that we will never have a better Malawi with a poor opposition and you’re working on having a poor opposition,”

Another user Kennias Chenamaso Muzuzira posted: “The Kasakura guy is compromised anyone can see that the way he conduct himself is not independent it is political in nature, forget about transformation at the national broadcaster same old stories. Shame on you and Malawi,”

Kasakula, who until his appointment was Editor in Chief for Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Mouth-Piece Times Group, has been a critic of former governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

The appointment of Kasakula follows rubber-stamping interviews the board conducted some weeks ago in capital city Lilongwe.

The Position of Director General at the state broadcaster fell vacant after the board fired Aubrey Sumbuleta over incompetence.
