MEC Suspends Voter Registration

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has suspended voter registration exercise in Blantyre City with immediate effect.

The suspension came barely hours after suspected Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and UTM ‘Thugs’ stormed some registration centres where they damaged Voter registration kits among others.

According to MEC statement, the decision has been made to protect lives of registrants, voter registration staff and MEC property following attack.

Malawi is expected to conduct fresh presidential elections on July 2, 2020 according to MEC calendar.

  1. So MEC has enough money to hire foreign lawyers but have no money to hire enough security to man registration centres?

I think this suspension was prearranged by with DPP……but the bottom line is that it does not matter how long DPP want to hang on to power time is coming when you will leave govt and that will be payback time……
