The Governing Mighty Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has collected nomination papers ahead of fresh presidential elections slated for 2 July 2020, according to Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).
MEC’s Director of Media and Public Relations, Sangwani Mwafulirwa confirmed the development in an interview with a local radio station on Sunday.
Mwafulirwa said so far eight nomination papers have been collected from the Malawi Electoral Commission in readiness for the forthcoming polls.
Political parties that have collected nomination papers include The New Republican Party, New Vision for Democracy Party of Shaibu Swira and Mbakuwaku Movement for Democracy.
While Independent candidates are Ras Chikomeni Chirwa, Smart Swira, Henry Mdebwe and Phunziro Mvula.
