Govt Temporarily Ban Religious Gatherings

Church Services Suspended

The Malawi Government through Special Cabinet Committee Covid-19 has suspended social gathering such as Religious gathering as a measure of fighting the spread of Covid-19 in the country.

Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Dr. Ben Malunga Phiri announced the development on Thursday during a media briefing in Lilongwe.

The Minister Dr. Phiri said the new measures aims at prevent the further spread of covid-19. He added that government has the duty to protect the citizens from coronavirus.

“These measures are aimed at preventing the further spread of the virus and containing it since there are now reported cases

Among others, the government has also suspended all public events such as Mobile markets, cultural events, Wedding Ceremonies and sports events.

Malawi has so far registered eight cases of coronavirus, including one death and According to World Health Organization, as of Wednesday morning the world registered over 1.3 million cases of Covid-19 with over 72, OOO people.
