FEBRUARY 2, MANA: Vice President, Everton Chimulirenji has called on Malawians to remain peaceful and respect court ruling which is expected to be delivered by the constitutional court on Monday February 3, 2020 in Lilongwe.
Speaking during the induction ceremony of Rev. Dr Billy Gama as moderator of Nkowa CCAP Church under Blantyre City Presbytery of Blantyre Synod, he said Malawi has always been a peaceful country and that this has been possible because its people love one another and most importantly, respect God.
The Vice President said as the Court was expected to deliver its ruling on the elections case, Malawians must always remember that there won’t be another country called Malawi should they choose to fight and destroy this beautiful nation.
“Malawi is one nation and we all must remember that despite our political affiliations, regional demography, tribe or status, we are one; we are Malawians and we shall remain Malawians. We therefore, must avoid destroying properties and the future that shall take us years to rebuild,” the Vice President said.
Chimulirenji appealed to all concerned stakeholders, particularly political parties to accept the outcome of the court and work towards developing the nation.
“Malawi will not end tomorrow. Let’s tolerate each other and most importantly, realize that God created this nation for us to live in harmony. God will not be happy to see his people fighting each other over political differences because he sees us as one people,” he observed.
Speaking of the induction ceremony, the Vice President said government recognizes the great role that Churches in the country play in building the country through various programmes.
He cited school and health facilities as some of the areas that churches supports government in fulfilling its mandate of providing better and quality services to the citizenry.
Chimulirenji congratulated Rev Dr Billy Gama for being ordained moderator of Nkowa Church, which is a small church according to the structure of the synod.
“You are the Secretary General of Blantyre Synod, you could have chosen any better church than Nkowa but your choice signifies the humble leadership gift that you have and also setting a standard of good stewardship,” he said.
Deputy Secretary General, Moyenda Kanjewa hailed the Vice President for accepting to attend the ceremony which he said would help face lift Nkowa CCAP church.
He congratulated Rev Billy Gama for being ordained moderator of the church, which he said is too small comparing with the title that he holds.
“We know that by coming to Nkowa a lot of things will change. We expect a number of developments and see many people coming to this church,” Rev Kanjewa said.
Speaking on behalf of Nkowa CCAP Church members, Louis Mlangiza Banda said everyone was excited to have Rev Billy Gama as their moderator. He pledged total support to the new moderator.
During the session, Rev Reynold Mmangisa, who led the sermon emphasized on the need for Malawians to work as one body.
He said if Malawians start to group themselves and consider themselves as more important than others, chances are that, all may not be well and the country will not move forward.
“Let us work the way the body operates. If one part of the body stops functioning, the whole system gets paralyzed. What it therefore means is that, let’s consider each one of us as important for our country to move forward,” he said.
Before being ordained moderator for Nkowa Church, Rev Billy Gama was a moderator of Mulanje Mission in Mulanje District.
Among the notable faces at the ceremony were: Kondwani Nankhumwa, Democratic Progress Party (DPP) Vice President for the South, Grezeder Geoffrey, DPP Secretary General, Leston Muli, Malani Mtonga and Thom Mpinganjira.
