The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Secretary General Chileshe Kapwepwe says her organisation will continue supporting Malawi in its development activities.
The Comesa CEO this when she held a bilateral meeting with Hon. Francis Kasaila M. P, Minister of Foreign Affairs and international Cooperation in Niamey, Niger, on the sidelines of the 12th African Union Extraordinary Summit.
“As a member state, Malawi remains active and we will continue to support it with interventions at programme level, sector developments and we will continue to make sure that Malawi remains part of COMESA’s priority programs,” stated Kapwepwe.
The Secretary General also indicated that COMESA will support Malawi in the capacity building of its institutions.
During the discussions, Kasaila, appreciated the tremendous support that Malawi gets from COMESA especially in the trade sector.Kasaila updated the Comesa top boss that Malawi has completed its consultations with the Private Sector on the Tripartite Free Trade Area and will be ratifying the Agreement soon.
He also thanked COMESA for organising the regional meeting on Digital Free Trade and invited Comesa to attend the upcoming International Trade fair where the private sector could further be sensitised on the concept, in particular the use of Electronic Certificate of Origin being advocated for in the COMESA Free Trade Area. Hon. Kasaila further reaffirmed Malawi’s commitment to host the COMESA Youth conference.
