Eight protesters who became patients with alcohol intoxication were last week rushed to Kamuzu Central Hospital for treatment.
The drunk protesters came from the vigil which was held on Thursday last week.
The vigil was organised by Human Rights Defenders Coalition and opposition Malawi Congress Party and United Transformation Movement.
The patients were lucky as they arrived in good time before their situation got worse.
This is a clear sign that the organizers of the demonstrations are abusing the youth by offering them money, beer and perhaps drugs.
Apart from alcohol intoxication, there are also reports of gender based violence and unprotected sex during and after the demonstrations putting to risk lives of young people.
HIV and Aids figures are likely to rise by the time the demonstrations are called off.
